Waitrose – “The Perfect Gift”

Waitrose really said: What if a rom-com happened in the cheese aisle?

Keira Knightley and Joe Wilkinson star in a mini Christmas love story with enough charm to warm even the coldest winter cynic. It’s awkward, it’s sweet, it’s beautifully lit, and it feels like the kind of film you accidentally watch on a Sunday afternoon and end up loving.

John Lewis – "Where Love Lives"

John Lewis’ Christmas advert is setting the bar, as they do, every year.

However, this year they swapped whimsical creatures for something quieter and more grown-up: a father and teenage son trying and failing to express how they feel. A vinyl record becomes the bridge between them. Labrinth provides a soulful remake of a ’90s house track. Tissues at the ready for this one!

Barbour - "Gift‑O‑Matic"

Barbour continues their collaboration with Aardman this year with Wallace and Gromit! Wallace’s latest invention, the Gift‑O‑Matic, is a wonderfully over‑engineered contraption wrapped in Barbour’s festiveWinterberrytartan. Designed togift, wrap, unwrap, and even pull a cracker,it promises the perfect Christmas experience; at least in theory…

Disney – "Doodle Delight"

Directed by Taika Waititi, the short follows a girl whose unfinished doodle magically comes to life. It’s whimsical, imaginative, and absolutely loaded with heart.

The animation is stunning, the storytelling is tight, and the message is pure childhood wonder.

Boots – "Gift Happily Ever After"

Puss in Boots Goes Shopping.

Boots decided to jump headfirst into fairy-tale territory, sending Puss in Boots on a gift-hunting adventure before the Snow Queen’s Ball.

Aldi – Kevin the Carrot 3 Part Saga

Aldi leans all the way into Christmas movie parody by recreating the iconic Love Actually cue-card scene except Kevin asks,Marry Christmas? And then the chaos ensues!

Looks like its Grinchmas!

The Grinch is everywhere, a sub-theme we noticed this year.

McDonald's x The Grinch

The ad shows The Grinch attempting tosabotageWhoville/McDonald’s with gherkin fries, mischievous socks, and other seasonal chaos. The campaign includes:

  • AGrinch Meal(Big Mac, McNuggets or McPlant +Grinched McShaker Fries+ socks)
  • Grumble Pie, Mischief McFlurry, Grinch Lemonade
  • Social media, out-of-home, and packaging all Grinch-themed

Asda – “A Very Merry Grinchmas”

Asda unleashed The Grinch into real life. He skulks through the supermarket aisles, judging everything, before being won over by Asda’s prices. It’s witty, self-aware, and perfectly tuned to the cost-of-living mood.

Final Verdict

This year, we’ve seen a clear shift away from over-the-top spectacle toward adverts built on relatable emotion, nostalgia, affordability, and small-scale magic.

In short: 2025 feels more human. More grounded. Maybe more honest.

Well thats got us into the festive spirit, which of these is your favourite?!
