Fenwick Christmas Window 2025: A Christmas Carol

Written by Sam Monkhouse

The festive season has arrived, and Fenwick Newcastle is once again bringing a touch of Christmas magic to Northumberland Street.

This year’s iconic Christmas windows have been reimagined by author and illustrator Chris Riddell, who’s added his signature style and charm and to the Charles Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol.

After last year’s Twelve Days of Christmas display, Riddell returns with a brand-new series of seven stunning windows, each one capturing a key moment in Scrooge’s journey from cold-hearted grump to the warm and generous man we see later. There is a wonderful mix of detailed illustrations and 3D scenes.

Scrooge’s Office

It’s Christmas Eve. Outside, carol singers. Inside, Bob Cratchit works hard while Scrooge mutters his famous “Bah, humbug!”

Scrooge’s Bedroom

Marley’s ghost appears, next to Scrooge’s bed rattling chains, warning him that three spirits are on their way to teach him a much needed lesson.

Great use of a digital screen to give the ghost illusion.

The Ghost of Christmas Past

Scrooge is taken back to happier days during his youth, to explore the lost love, and the joy he once knew.

Very striking seeing the towering Ghost of Christmas past complete with flickering flame above their head.

The Ghost of Christmas Present

A room glowing with laughter, food, and festive cheer shows Scrooge what the season is really about.

The most impactful window with piles of Christmas baubles and a bewildered Scrooge looking on.

The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come

A haunting vision of what might be, we see Scrooge and the Ghost flying high above the town.

The lights projected give the impression that were travelling over all of the houses below.

Christmas Morning

You boy! What day is it? Scrooge flings open the window, ready to start anew and embrace the joy of Christmas.

A New Beginning

The final window celebrates a changed Scrooge, full of kindness and generosity, sharing Christmas with the Cratchit family.
